Saint Albert the Great
Saint Albert ranks high among the great philosophers and theologians of the Middle Ages. He was born in 1193 in the city of Longian, in a noble family, and got an excellent education from the Padua, Italy and Paris, France. He had a desire to serve God through a consecrated life, therefore he joined the Monastic Order of Saint Dominic, dropping down mathematics, philosophy, and biology to focus on learning the Sacred Theology in the Bologna, Italy. He then moved to deepen his philosophic studies in Strasburg and Ferburg, and especially in Bologna wherefrom his fame shone on the world as a great philosopher and theologian, and thus he earned the title “Albert the Great”. Several were Albert’s disciples, but Saints Thomas Aquinas and Bonaventure were among the most famous ones.
Albert’s great theological and theological writings added deepness and new spirit to the educative treasures of the Church. In October 15th, 1280, he passed from this earthly life to enjoy the eternal glories prepared to him by his Divine Teacher. He was declared a doctor in the Catholic Church by Pope Pius XI, and patron of the students by Pope Pius XII. May his prayers be with us. Amen.
